Reblogging for artsy people that follow me. Also a lovely name for a program.
I WAS JUST WANTING TO DRAW SOMETHING WITH MY NEW TABLET BUT I COULDN’T BECAUSE I DIDN’T HAVE A PROGRAM TUMBLR IS READING MY MIND!!!!
I’m really fond of this program so far. It may be a bit over-simplified - I’ve had trouble figuring out some really basic things - but it responds really well to my tablet, which is the most important thing.
It launches fast. Works well on Windows AND Mac. It’s perfect for fast or derp doodles and screencaps. It has guides which are awesome for helping with drawing perspective and uniform direction lines It even shows you pretty artwork in its dialogue window at startup for inspiration. IT’S AWESOME.
For those who don’t know:
THE ALPACA HAS LEVELED UP
-Has an Animation Mode (OnionSkin mode) using the layers as frames -Reference Window -Advanced Brush settings and editing -New Filters such as “Invert”, “Extracting Lines”, “Cloud”, and “Sand” -More snap tools, including a 3D perspective function
And the younger sister software, Medibang Paint Pro, is a more robust version that’s usable on not just Computers, but Android and iOS systems as well
-You can save your preferences, workspace, brushes, palettes, and materials if you have a Medibang.com account, and you can export/import them across different computers if need be. -Medibang is a lot like Pixiv or DeviantART, except you can become a published illustrator and/or Comics/Manga artist, regardless of where you’re from in the world -Medibang allows you to upload directly to their site as long as you have an internet connection -You can collaborate with others on illustrations or comic projects using the cloud saving system -Free brushes, screen tones, and background images available for download from the cloud, for use in your artwork
Look man either pay them or learn art yourself to feed your fat fetish.
bitch 40 for lineart should be the standard, art is a damn luxury and some of these artists need food
@ whatever greyshades is these days, Like I said, they’re kids who don’t know how to haggle.
>Lineart - 2 hours for pencils, 1-2 hours for lines = 3 hours at $40
>$40/3(aprox) = $13/hr - paypal fees and bank transfer fees = 10/hr
>Colour - 2 hours for pencils, 1- 2 hours for lines, 3-6 hours for colour = aprox 9 hours at $120
>$120/9 = 13/hr - paypal fees and bank transfer fees = 10/hr
Art is an extremely specialised skillset that takes anywhere from 5-20 years to develop, costs around 500 minimum entry to be able to create digital art due to requiring a tablet and software, along with enough RAM to run high-layer drawings depending on your program. Thinking you have any reason or right to haggle with someone because you don’t like their prices is some entitled shit my friend. You don’t walk into an autoshop and try to barter with them for their hourly wage and their parts cost, why the fuck would you do it in something else? It’s capitalism, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it but don’t think you have a right to special treatment.
I guarantee you we’d charge hourly if that was a possible standard but because the industry has no standards peope have to charge what will sell and that is ultimately much lower than it really should. Especially considering most of us have standards against drawing furry mpreg vore.
People don’t realize just how cheap commissioned art online actually is. Most of the time you pay the artists minimum wage.
Just think about that for a second.
>500 bucks for a computer used for drawing
Since when do you need an RX 580 to draw? And i really doubt you’d need more than 8GB of ram either, which is standard.
Alot of artists work off shit laptops, myself excluded. The issue is tablets, a good one of which will run you 250 minimum, and the cheapest monitor tablet on the market is a 9" for $520CAD. This in addition to between 50-200 for drawing software, if not included with your tablet can be prohibitively expensive. CSP goes on sale semi-frequently but is still an investment and investments in your business need to be factored into cost of the service provided. In addition, programs like SAI use line smoothing, a CPU intensive process that depending on how much of your computer is working on a streaming program as well as 30+ layers on a 4000x3000 canvas can cause harsh slowdowns and make such tools worthless without a powerful enough computer. Once again ignoring rendering times for 3d artists.
Realistically most artists are working well below minimum wage depending on their country of residence and need things like Patreon to survive, or to keep a steady job on the side. This isn’t a skill you go to school for four years and are workable and hireable, this is a skill that is unique and takes decades to develop into something that you can pay the bills with. Artists are an extremely specialised field and skillset and should be treated as such.
And once again, you don’t like it, don’t buy it you entitled cunt. We get to deal with manchildren and entitled babies that we often don’t have the luxury of saying no to. Do you really want to compare asking for a used table at a swap meet to asking someone to spend ten hours drawing your furry OC taking ten cocks in the ass?
I rarely reblog but this stuff is true.
I started from scratch with a shit computer, shit tablet and shit screen, and have slowly worked from there thanks to commissioners a small few who gave their goodwill to support me and get where I am right now. Most of the time I get paid slightly above higher than the minimum wage for portuguese standards, which are very low, but I would never survive in other countries outside Portugal. EVER.
PS: You do need more than 8gb of ram to draw nowadays without wanting to have your computer shit itself with photoshop alone.
I don’t have anything else to add. Tammdraws dropped the mic on this.
Thought I’d add my own two cents into this.
As a professional artist, I can attest to the time and effort it took to become “good at art” (as friends and family tell me). It took even longer, 5 years minimum, to actually start getting people who wanted to commission me for my style of art.
It’s as the saying goes: “It takes me 10 minutes to an hour to draw you a sketch, but it took 5-10 years of my life to be able to get to this point in which you’d WANT to buy a sketch from me.” (Well… that saying is worded differently everywhere, but the point still stands!)
As everyone else said, art is a luxury. It makes life more appealing and can speak with more words than a regular body of text (which, as an author, I can attest to this. (Not saying authors do not have merit. They’re quite astounding in how they formulate words to create a story.)) Both of these art forms took time to perfect. It took a tenacious attitude and constant support from friends and family to become the artist that people know them for.
If you, or anyone else, wants to tell an artist that their hard work is worth LESS than the gold they see it for, then I suggest you look in a mirror and punch the person staring back at you. Clearly, whoever is in that mirror needs to understand common decency, social etiquette, and the basics of human kindness.
Artists are not pitiful lowly creatures that do your bidding. They are living, breathing people who deserve respect for doing something you cannot do, and doing it WELL enough to be paid the price they have their art set at.
FINALLY: Let the artist decide what their art is worth. If they want your opinion, they will ask it. Don’t assume you’re right in your judgement of price, because you can only speak for yourself, and NOBODY else.
And they are getting even more strict when it comes to not using invoices for charging for Digital Goods.
Whatever Invoices make you uncomfortable or not, you gotta start using them if you want to keep your PayPal and your money. Changes starting this October 19th.
Honestly I don’t get why so many artists are so overwhelmed by invoices, takes just a few clicks to set up.
And is not only “oh you have to use invoices because PayPal says so” if you don’t use invoices you’re putting yourself at risk of being scammed by an user abusing the buyer’s protection.
Since PayPal ain’t got no idea of what those $50 you received were for, but the buyer is saying they didn’t got anything for the money, PayPal will just side with the buyer.
I’m seriously begging ppl, start using invoices. I’m tired of seeing ppl complain their paypal was banned, or is under investigation, or worse, the $100 they got for a very complicated commission, 3 months later get a refund issue.
just
start
using
invoices
for your own sake.
Here is how you use invoices because I can’t keep playing devil’d advocate, yes I would love to help you get your PayPal restored but just this last month I had to help three persons, and they were MORE than aware of this issues.
Just protect yourself.
Step 1. You login and click here
Step 2. You click create new Invoice. YOU NEVER CLICK REQUEST MONEY, unless you want to risk yourself to get scamer by buyer’s protection exploit and not only lose your money but your paypal account, and any future paypal linked to your irl name.
Step 3 You follow this steps
1. Invoice for amount only
2. Ask your client for their PayPal email and put in that field
3. Add a vague description of what you’re doing, something like “Character Coloured with Background” is good enough, and if you need more than 1 character you can type in “2″ where it says amount, or just say “2 characters”.
Warning: don’t type in “Naruto rawing Sasuke”. That will get you banned.
4. Click send.
Optional steps. Create a template, doesn’t take more than 10 minutes and it will save you a lot of time for future invoices, you can even click on “items” right next to “create invoice” and add a list of services you offer such as “character sketch” “character flats” along with a price, so next time you invoice you just add to the invoice from your list of items and you saved yourself some more time.
More importantly, you protect yourself from buyer’s protection exploit because if PayPal knows you’re doing digital goods, then you will be allowed that you did in fact created a digital good.
Keep PayPal happy, as for right now there are no alternatives to this service, and this is the only source of income for many freelancers.
Stay safe.
Heads up, all commissioning artists
I’ll be doing this from now on!
ADDING THIS BC I HATE PAYPALLLL
OK so when you send/make invoices…it doesnt let you choose ‘digital good’ or differentiate between “goods (as in physical)” and “services” (as in doesnt need address) which is what you could do with micropayments….
SO WHEN U SEND INVOICE the buyer will be asked for their shipping address. ( I even had the options turned off for shipping?? I was pretty sure there USED TO be an option that you turned off and then it wouldn’t ask for shipping, but that doesnt seem to work anymore? I went to where the setting was and still had the boxes unchecked, and yet my buyer was still getting asked to put in shipping address, and when invoice was paid, i was being asked to provide shipping label by X date or Consequences.)
SO APPARENTLY YOU HAVE TO DO THIS as the SELLER
SO go to the invoice (i think this can be done BEFORE the buyer pays?? Didnt try myself tho, i did it after it was paid), and click on VIEW DETAILS in that first box
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click ADD TRACKING INFO
(YES COUNTER-INTUITIVE AS BALLLLLS.)
of course HERE IS WHERE YOU'RE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS ON PROCESSING DIGITAL GOODS. HIDDEN BEHIND A BUTTON YOU WOULDNT PRESS IF YOU WERE, SAY, TRYING TO SELL DIGITAL GOODS.
Select Order Processed/Service Rendered
YAY this stuff fills itself out and you can save and not have to worry about shipping your Digital Intangible Product to a very confused seller.
I am so salt about this. excuse me while i go cry angrily.
Think I’ll reblog this for my own use…
Guess I gotta get used to sending invoices for all transactions soon then
All artists, (that means students and professionals, painters and cartoonists, sculptors and illustrators, animators and fine artists, EVERYONE who creates) this September 2nd is World Art Drop Day. Wherever you find yourself that day, drop a piece of your art and tell someone where to find it. The world needs this right now. We need to feel a little more connection to each other and there’s nothing like the bond two random strangers can make through the act of creating and giving.
I recently just finished a cross-country art drop this summer and it was exhilarating. The emails and responses I received from the finders ran the gamut of funny to touching. I want that for everyone!
Here’s how it works:
Draw a picture and hide it somewhere.
Take a photo of either the art or the hiding spot or a combination of both.
Post the image, the city you dropped it in, and a hint on any social media of your choice. Be sure to included the hashtag: #artdropday
Then move on, hoping someone finds it. OR hang around and meet your new friend.
That’s it!
I need your help spreading the word on this. Reblog it, retweet it, facebook it, or even tell someone in person!
September 2nd, lets connect the whole planet with art!
Don’t think I’ve reblogged this but I’m totally doin it and highly recommend you fellow artist people take part as well!
“THIS PICTURE WILL NOT CHANGE THE WORLD, BUT I STILL NEED FEMINISM AND I’M GOING TO REALLY, REALLY TELL YOU WHY”:
-Because I got called a whore for wearing a short plaid skirt when I was 10
-and because when Nujood Ali from Yemen was 10 she got divorced
-Because black girls’ names became my classmates’ favorite “joke” when I was 11
-and because when an 11-year-old girl in Texas was raped by 18 men the New York Times wrote of how the girl “dressed older than her age”
-Because I started counting calories when I was 14
-and because when Malala Yousafzai was 14 she was shot in the head for trying to go to school
-Because I heard a boy greet a girl with “hey slut” today at age 16 -and because when a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, Ohio was filmed being raped by two boys at a party while unconscious the CNN reporters talked about how tragic it was because the rapists had such bright futures as athletes
-Because I will have to watch my drink at all bars and parties when I am 22
-and because when CeCe McDonald was 22 she was sentenced to 41 months in prison for defending herself against a man who screamed transphobic, racist insults at her and then slashed her face with a bottle
-Because no matter what age I am the biggest threat to men will still be heart disease, and the biggest threat to women will still be men.
-Because it is not just about me, because it is not just about anger, because it is not just a JOKE, because it is not just about “hating men,” because it is not just about girls with vaginas, because it is not just about ending “slut”, because it is not just about white straight girls in Rookie magazine, because it is not just about writing on backs, because it is not just about the fact that gay men are “fags” but lesbians are “hot,” because it is not just about pictures of thin white girls being the only google image results for the search phrase “beautiful women”, because it is not just about writing signs, because it is not just about what she was wearing or how many times she said yes before she changed her answer to no, because misogyny is not just about one thing and feminism is not just about one thing and it is not just “a trend” and it will not “happen” in just one way.
-And because yes. It is about equality for EVERYONE, but first and foremost it needs to be about equality for girls, because they are not treated equally to men, in every single sense, and you are not going to take feminism away from me and call me bossy/hostile/aggressive and make this about yourself or make it into a joke, because truth be told, I’m not joking and I’m tired of explaining. If you want to call yourself a feminist, you work hard to spread feminism, you do not turn this into a contest of whose struggle is greater and constantly demand to know what you can get out of feminism personally. Feminism is not just about you, or me, it is about everyone. If you’re male and you’re tired of men being stereotyped as hyper-masculine, soulless, sexist, inherent leader-tyrant creatures, then go out and prove the patriarchy wrong and fight for girls, like someone with a soul who believes in equality would. Then, yes, feminism will be about everyone.
Remember 8 hours ago when I tagged this “my back has 700 notes”
Not to sound cheesy, but let’s be cheesy. You are all astounding and your stories and words are breaking my heart in the most powerful, beautiful way and you are all why I still need and will keep fighting for feminism.
Women shouldn’t have to walk home with their keys in their hands, they should be free like birds and treated like how all people should be treated, with respect. I just can’t see why people can’t see other people as what they are, people with hopes and dreams and lives. It makes me sick to see what other people have to suffer through, and it pains me more to find out how common the mistreatment of others is.
